RMHC Switches its Purpose During COVID-19 Pandemic

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many charitable organizations were forced to close their doors. Ronald McDonald House knew that they were not going to be able to house as many families as they had in the past. But while restrictions caused them to stop their normal operations, Ronald McDonald House of Central New York still found a way to give back.

The Central New York Ronald McDonald House turned its focus to provide emergency lodging to frontline healthcare professionals at Upstate University Hospital. The hospital does not have to pay the house to use it but their only expense to use the house is a small cleaning fee. 

"We greatly appreciate the support of one of our community's most cherished agencies," said CEO of Upstate University Hospital Robert Corona, according to Upstate News. "We are grateful for their generosity."

With Central New York Ronald McDonald House having to shift their focus, executive director Beth Trunfio sees the pandemic as an opportunity to help.

 "While we believe that temporarily closing our House was the most responsible way to help protect our guest families, it has now presented us with a unique opportunity to contribute to the local fight against COVID-19." said Trunfio, according to Upstate News. 

The Central New York has not stopped serving families thought. They have moved the families to a nearby hotel where RMHC services are still being provided. Not only does this mission show how RMHC is a caring organization, but they are an extension of what New York as a state is doing to honor their frontline workers

Ronald McDonald House is supportive of everything going on in the world. When a global pandemic shut down the world, they kept the doors open to the first responders and front line workers who risk their lives everyday in the hospital treating sick patients with COVID. It goes to show that Ronald McDonald House is willing to serve the people who need it most. And by expanding its mission by helping hospital workers, RMHC will be looked at worldwide as an organization that gives their helping hand to everyone and that is what the organization should be recognized for.
